A suspected drug trader has been killed and another injured in a “gunfight” with police in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj district.

The deceased is Kayum Sheikh, 28, son of Abdul Kuddus of Porchoka village. Police said he was a drug and hundi trader.

Chapainawabganj Superintendent of Police (SP) Mozahidul Islam said: “The drug trader opened fire at a team of police when they went to Choka village to conduct a drive—around 2:30am on Monday.”

In retaliation, police returned fire—leaving Kayum and 38-year-old Firoz, injured. Meanwhile, Sony, 30, managed to flee the scene.

Later, Kayum was declared dead upon arrival at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
