Siddique, the then-owner of MS Munshi Overseas Agency, was shot and killed in his office on November 14 last year
The Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police has arrested suspected assailant Nur Amin alias Nura from Badda area of Dhaka on charges of gunning down the owner of a manpower export agency.
Siddique Hossain, 55, the then-owner of MS Munshi Overseas Agency, was shot and killed in his office on November 14 last year.
Police sources said Nura had established a reign of terror in the Badda, Gulshan, and Rampura areas of the capital with his criminal associates Arif, Nuri, Sharif and Pichchi Alamin.
The suspect was arrested around 9pm on Wednesday, confirmed the DB (north) ADC Md Golam Saqlain.
Following the murder, video footage of four of the assailants went viral on social media last year. Further investigation revealed that a total of seven assailants had participated in the murder.
Of the seven assailants: Nuri, Sharif, Saddam, and Arif entered Siddique’s office and shot him dead. Pichchi Alamin and Nura stayed at the entrance of the building, to lock the building's front entrance after the murder.
So far, four people have been killed in so-called gunfights with law enforcement, while two others have confessed to their crimes before the court.
Sources say the murder was committed because of extortion and Jubo Dal leader Nahid, who is currently on the run in Sweden, had given the order to kill Siddique.
Another suspect named Md Ahaduzzaman Sobuj, wanted for murdering a man in Badda Fish market on February 14 this year, was also arrested during a police raid the same night around 11.35pm.
“Sobuj was one of the shooters who gunned down Badsha in the Badda Fish Market area. He was arrested on Wednesday night from Badda with 2,000 Yaba pills,” ADC Saqlain told the Dhaka Tribune.
He added: “Sobuj confessed his involvement with Badsha’s murder during initial interrogation.”
Badsha was gunned down in front of numerous witnesses — reportedly over disputes regarding money and establishing dominance in the Badda area.
Listed criminal, Nuri, who participated in the murder along with five-six others, was detained by the public and policemen on site — with his firearm. He was later killed in a “gunfight” during an arms raid.
Another suspect, named Arif, has given his confessional statement before a court.
Police said Sobuj is a Yaba peddler and had carried out numerous criminal acts including the murder of Badsha, on Nuri’s orders.
Both of these police raids were led by DB ADC Saqlain.
