A case was filed against 10 people, including seven members of the Detective Branch (DB) of police, on Sunday, on charges of extorting a dairy farm owner by trapping him at the district DB office for four consecutive days in Narayanganj.

The accused DB men are district DB police inspector Md Giasuddin, Sub-Inspector Md Shahidul Islam, two Assistant Sub-Inspectors -- Nazim Uddin and Md Aminul Haque, and three constables -- Md Hadiuzzaman, Md Ibrahim Hossain, Md Afajuddin.

The other three accused are police sources -- Md Mahbub, Md Mizanur Rahman and Md Suman Akhter.

According to case details, the alleged DB men brought local dairy farm owner Zamal Hossain for interrogation to the DB office on June 2 and trapped him for four consecutive days, all the while attempting to extort money from him.

After failing to get money from him, the policemen sent him to the court in a false robbery case with Fatulla model police station and sent him on remand on June 6.

The victim's brother Md Aman filed the case with the court of Narayanganj Judicial Magistrate Mehedi Hasan Sunday afternoon.

It was also alleged that Inspector Giasuddin had demanded Tk5 lakh for Zamal’s release and even threatened to kill him in a shootout unless the money was paid by June 5.

The court granted Aman’s petition and ordered the district's superintendent of police (SP) that the case be sent to the court by an officer having an equivalent rank of additional superintendent of police after an immediate interrogation process.

The plaintiff filed the case with the court after failing to get any response despite a written complaint to the SP’s office.
