The CID of police detained Zakir Sarkar from Mohammadpur on May 16 based on a tip-off
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police has arrested the ringleader of a racket responsible for Bitcoin transactions during a drive in Dhaka.
They detained Zakir Sarkar, 26, from Mohammadpur on May 16 based on a tip-off, said a CID press release.
Police seized a mobile phone, computer, and other electronic devices from Zakir’s possession during the raid, reports Bangla Tribune.
During preliminary interrogation, Zakir said he along with his associates illegally brought numerous virtual coins including Bitcoin, Neteller, and Skrill to Bangladesh via online wallets and sold them to people.
They made transactions of $1,500-2,000 on average every day.
A case was filed with the Mohammadpur police station in this regard.
