Police have arrested a man in connection with one of the crimes
Two minor girls have been raped in separate incidents in Hemayetpur, Savar, on the outskirts of Dhaka city.
Police have arrested a man from Rajfulbaria in connection with one of the incidents.
The arrestee, Sumon, 27, allegedly abducted a 13-year-old ready-made garment worker, who is also from Rajfulbaria, on May 13 and kept her confined at several places in Nabinagar, where he raped her several times, according to the victim's account.
On Thursday, Sumon, who works at the same factory as the teenager, left her in Rajfulbaria. The teenager then went home and told her father, who filed a case with Savar Model police station against Sumon.
He was arrested by police Friday morning, Inspector Sazzad Hossain of the police station confirmed.
The second victim, a third-grader at a local Brac school, was raped allegedly by a neighbour at her home in Jadurchar area Thursday morning.
The accused, 31-year-old rickshaw van driver Shamim, had entered the victim’s home when both of her parents went to work and then raped the child, according to her family members.
She was rushed to Savar Upazila Health Complex after her family found her lying injured.
Inspector Sazzad said the victim’s family filed a case against Shamim, but he has yet to be arrested.
