Members of Customs have seized 60 gold bars weighing 6.96kg from a microbus of Biman Bangladesh Airlines at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Sunday afternoon.
The microbus was stopped when it was making an exit through the hanger gate at the airport around 2pm.
The Customs Preventive Team also detained the microbus driver, Billal Hossain, 50, over the incident.
The market price of the rescued gold amounts to Tk3.5 crore.
Othello Chowdhury, deputy commissioner of Dhaka Customs House, said the customs officials recovered the gold bars from inside the interior cover of the vehicle's door.
During primary interrogation, Billal revealed that Amzad, another driver of the national flag carrier, gave him the gold consignment asking him to go out of the airport, he said.
Amzad went into hiding soon after the gold bars were seized, the DC Customs added.
