RAB detains 3 suspected Ansar al-Islam members
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have detained three suspected members of Ansar al-Islam from several villages of Rajshahi’s Belpukur area. A team of RAB 5 detained the suspects after conducting drives in Baneshshor Bazar and Jamira village early Monday. The detainees are West Jamira village’s Raju Ahmed, 28, and Jamira village’s Jahangir Alam, 36 and Farhad Hossain, 30. RAB 5 commander Lt Col Mahabubor Rahman said the elite force detained Raju around 8pm on Sunday on the allegation of being involved in militant activities. Later, based on his information, the RAB men conducted a drive in Jamira village and detained Jahangir and Farhad early Monday. The RAB official also said they had plans to kill three to four people who are against militancy and are helping the law enforcement agencies to catch militants. During the drive the RAB men seized a total of four cell phones, six SIM cards, five Jihadi books, some leaflets and national identity (NID) cards. According to the commander, the detainees were involved in several hijackings in the district, including in Godagari, wearing RAB’s uniform, to aid the family of the militants who were arrested earlier.
