In the space of a few hours, two activists belonging to the United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) and its rival group JSS MN Larma, both Chittagong Hill Tracts-based political parties, were murdered in Naniarchar upazila of Rangamati on Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as UPDF's Jony Tonchongya of Rajasthali upazila and JSS MN Larma group member Sadan Chakma of Tachara village in Naniarchar.
Naniarchar police station OC Abdul Latif said rival group members attacked Jony while he was taking tea at a tea stall in the afternoon and fled the scene immediately, leaving him dead on the spot.
Within several hours, Sadan was found hacked to death allegedly by rival group members who also fled the scene.
It was unclear whether the two incidents were related.
Police recovered the bodies from the respective spots, the OC added.
