Update : 04 Apr 2018, 03:26 PM
The body of a student was found in a hostel in Cumilla’s Racecourse area, Wednesday morning. Shagar Dutta, 19, was discovered dead on the ground floor of Paka Pole B H Bhuyian House (holding no. 1279-03) at around 6:30 in the morning. Another man, identified as Shajib Shana, was rescued from the same location with gunshot wounds. A pistol, a knife and a boti (a type of kitchen knife) was recovered from the scene. Police suspects the murder was the result of a romance gone awry. Shagar Dutta was the son of Shankar Dutta of Chirra village of Barera Union of Chandina Upazila. He was a student of grade 11 at Cumilla Government College. The injured Shajib Saha is the son of Rakal Saha of Ujanchar village of Bancharampur Upazila. He is a final year student of Cumilla Victoria College. Locals said they heard loud gunshots in the morning and saw two men fleeing the scene. When they went to the scene they saw two young men tied up, with duct tape covering their faces. B H Bhuyian House’s owner’s wife, Shepali, said, they live on the third floor and another family has been living on the second floor. For the last five years she has been renting to bachelors, on the ground floor. Six people lived in three separate rooms. Shajib became a tenant last year. According to Shagar’s uncle, Shagar was a decent boy. He passed his SSC examinations last year and came to study here. “His mother and relatives are in sheer agony learning about his demise,” the uncle added. The uncle had no information on Shagar’s love-life. Additional Superintendent of Police Tanvir Salehin Emon said “It is primarily suspected that of the six people anybody could have done this, as there is a possibility of conflict over romance related issues.”
