Pakshi Union Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) president Sadrul Alam Pintu died on Monday after being hacked and shot, allegedly by political opponents, in Ishwardi Upazila of Pabna.
Pintu, 28, was pronounced dead on Monday morning while he was under treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. He was attacked on Sunday evening.
Ishwardi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Azim Uddin said “I heard Sadrul Alam Pintu has died. I have no details right now to comment on this matter.”
Some local people and BCL men seeking anonymity said “There has been a long feud going on between two groups of Chhatra League of Pakshi Union for a long time.
Earlier, Sadrul chopped off a hand of BCL worker Sourav Hossain Tuntuni and rode around the area with it in a motorbike.
It is suspected that it was a payback from Tuntuni’s men, locals said.
Sadrul’s paternal grandfather Jamal Hossain has confirmed the news of his death. Sadrul was the son of Abdul Azad of Char Ruppur village of the upazila.
According to his family and police, Sadrul was first shot and then mercilessly hacked by a group of men, and left on the road on Sunday evening, at the Pakshi Ruppur circle.
Local people rescued Sadrul and took him to Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex. He was shifted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated.
