Suspected Ansarullah financier among 4 held
Four people, including a suspected financier of Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT), have been arrested from Ashulia area in Dhaka. The arrestees are Nafis Iqbal Shakil, 38, financer of banned militant outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT), Md Shamim Talukdar, 29, Md Johirul Islam Nannu, 30, and Md Shuvo Islam, 20. They are all involved with VOIP (voice over internet protocol) business. A team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) conducted a drive at the fourth floor of a house owned by one Bandu Mia around 11:30pm on Wednesday and detained them. Meanwhile, the elite force also recovered VOIP equipment and 158 unregistered SIM cards in the drive. RAB 10 Media Officer Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Md Jahid Ahsan said: "These three businessmen were helping militant organization Ansarullah Bangla Team in the name of VOIP business. "They used to give a share of their income from the business to the militant group." He said: "In the primary investigation, we found out that the arrestees were involved in illegal VOIP business. Nafis is also a member the militant organization." "He sent money to the Ansarullah members at large on a regular basis and ran the organizational work of the militant group," the RAB officer said adding that a case will be filed with Ashulia police station in this regard.
