Four militant suspects held in Dhaka

The arrestees are the members of banned militant outfits Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh and Ansar al-Islam

Four suspected members of banned militant outfits Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh ( also known as New JMB) and Ansar al-Islam (otherwise known as Ansarullah Bangla Team) have been arrested from Motijheel and Tikatuli areas in Dhaka.

The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP)  arrested Jabed Kaiser, 31, Md Miah Rubel, 28, and Md Mamun, 27, of  New JMB from Mothijheel’s Pir Jongi Mazar area on Saturday around 8pm.

CTTC sources said the arrestees used to live in Singapore and were arrested by police for their militant activities. They came to Bangladesh after serving different jail terms in Singapore.

CTTC Deputy Commissioner (media) Masudur Rahman said they were providing financial assistance to their domestic cohorts to strengthen anti-government organizations and banned militant outfits. After coming back home, they had been plotting to carry out massive sabotage.

Mobile phones, passports, and Singapore currency were recovered from their possession.

Meanwhile, a team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Sadman Rahid, 29, a suspected member of Ansar al-Islam from Tikatuli area the  same day, confirmed the RAB 11 commanding officer.
