Third-grader raped by college student in Sunamganj
A third-grader has been raped allegedly by a college student at Tahirpur upazila of Sunamganj. The eight-year-old girl received critical injuries and was first taken to the local upazila health complex then to Sunamganj Sadar Hospital. Later, she was shifted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for better treatment when her physical condition started to deteriorate. The victim’s father and relatives said the culprit, Rimon Miah, an HSC student at Tahirpur Zainal Abedin College who lived next door, tricked her into going inside his living room where he raped her at around 3pm on Friday. The 22-year-old college student is now on the run. After returning from work, the victim’s father, a day labourer, learnt of the matter and immediately took her to the health complex. Later, on-duty doctors asked the victim's family to take her to the Sadar hospital for better treatment as her condition was getting worse due to increasing blood loss. Sunamganj Sadar Hospital's Resident Doctor Md Rafiqul Islam said when the girl was brought to the hospital on Friday evening, she was bleeding excessively. “Seeing her condition worsening, we referred her to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital,” he said. When contacted, Sylhet’s Additional Superintendent of Police Md Habibullah said they received a verbal complaint about the incident and were trying to detain the accused.
