Minor allegedly gang raped by Jubo League men posing as policemen
A group of Jubo League men, while identifying themselves as policemen, have allegedly picked up a 15-year-old girl from a home and raped her in Chatkhil upazila, Noakhali. The disturbing incident reportedly took place on February 7 night at Romapur village under Hatpukuria union of the upazila. The girl’s family, which is from Sahapur union’s Boktarpur village, have already filed a case against several people, but alleged that police were not arresting anybody. The victim’s mother told the Dhaka Tribune that the girl had gone to visit her uncle’s house at Romapur on February 7. “That night, six people, including Noakhala union Jubo League unit President Mojibur Rahman Sharif, Kamal and Jamal, came to my brother’s house. They identified themselves as policemen and whisked away my daughter. “Later all of them took turns in raping her in a nearby garden and left her there. My daughter informed us about what happened to her after returning home. We tried to file a case against the Jubo League men at Chatkhil police station right away that night, but police did not accept it at first.” The mother said police later, however, took the case on February 10, but avoided including the name of prime accused Mojibur in the list of accused. Two others were named in the case while four others were mentioned unidentified. “But it’s been 10 days and police have not arrested anyone yet. Moreover, several handmade bombs were also exploded in the premises of our house on Tuesday night... We are feeling very unsafe and living in constant fear,” said the mother. The girl’s father said they have also been threatened and told to remain silent about the rape. “If we do not, they have threatened to kill us all.” Responding to the allegations, Chatkhil police station’s OC Zahirul Anwar said: “We will bring everyone named by the victim to book following our investigation.” The girl’s medical examination was also done at Noakhali General Hospital after the case was filed, he added.
