Gopalganj school clerk suspended after sexually assaulting eighth-grader girl
A clerk at Gohala TCAL High School in Gopalganj’s Muksudpur upazila has been suspended after he allegedly sexually assaulted an eighth-grader girl. The school’s managing committee suspended 45-year-old Nur Mohammad Sheikh on Sunday, four days after the incident, said Headmaster Giasuddin Gazi. Nur is on the run since the assault on the schoolgirl. Meanwhile, locals and students and teachers of the school held a human-chain protest at the school grounds demanding Nur’s arrest and punishment on Sunday afternoon. According to locals, Nur on February 8 had asked the victim to come with him to Muksudpur with the promise of helping her to get a scholarship. As the girl, without informing her family, agreed to go with him, Nur took her to Tekerhat Bazar at Madaripur’s Rajoir upazila instead of Muksudpur. He then drugged her and reportedly sexually violated the girl when she was unconscious after taking her to a secluded place behind the local Milk Vita office. However, Nur claimed he was innocent and the allegations against him were part of a conspiracy, a relative of the office assistant told reporters after talking to him over phone. Muksudpur police station OC Azizul Islam said they were yet to take any steps as no case or complaint was lodged with them until Sunday evening.
