Three activists of the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami's wing student Islami Chhatra Shibir were detained with a large number of Molotov cocktails from Dhaka’s Kafrul on Sunday.
A case was filed against them with Kafrul police station, said Assistant Sub-Inspector Wahedul Islam.
Police identified the trio as Tarikul Islam Tenjil, 40, Niyom Kumar, 38, and Mohidul, 36.
Tenjil is the joint general secretary of BNP’s Kafrul unit while Niyom is a leader of the Swechchhasebak Dal. Mohidul was involved with Shibir, according to police.
Their detention came three days before a Dhaka court is scheduled to deliver a verdict on BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in a corruption case.
They were detained from Kafrul’s Ibrahimpur area on Saturday night, ASI Wahedul said.
“We recovered three plastic bags from them, each containing 30 Molotov cocktails,” he said. “They had stockpiled these improvised bombs for creating unrest.”
