Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) officials arrested an Indian citizen with 6kg of gold at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport early Monday.
The arrestee was identified as Soumik Dwatta.
Md Shahidul Islam, assistant commissioner of the airport customs, said Soumik arrived at Dhaka airport by a Regent Airways flight from Singapore around 12:30am.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of customs officials stopped Soumik while he was crossing the airport’s green channel.
Later, the team recovered the gold, in shredded form, from Soumik’s water dispenser, the official added.
A case was filed with Airport police station in connection with the incident.
