The family of Nafis Ul Islam, who was killed in a gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) during an anti-militancy operation in Dhaka's Nakhalpara on January 12, has refused to accept his body.
A RAB team brought Nafis's father Nazrul Islam to Dhaka to identify the body of his son at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital morgue on Friday (January 19).
Nafis's family identified him from pictures shown by Chittagong’s Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC).
Bursting into tears, Nazrul Islam told the Dhaka Tribune that he would not accept the body of a militant.
“He was my son when he went missing. But he became a militant. How can I accept the body of a militant?"

“I want to send out a message to all who choose the wrong path of militancy, your family members will not receive your bodies,” Nazrul said, with tears in his eyes.
Nazrul said that his son liked to play cricket. He never have thought that his son could go down the path of militancy.
He also demanded exemplary punishment for those who led his son astray and asked parents to keep an eye on their children.
According to the police, Nafis stayed with his family at a house near Chittagong College. He left his home on October 6 last year and was missing since then.
Later, his father Nazrul Islam filed a general diary with Chawkbazar police station.
