The Detective Branch (DB) of police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained eight suspected members of a mugging gang from Dhaka’s Badda, Jatrabari and Mohammadpur area on Wednesday.
Tk6 lakh was found on the three men detained by the police, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Deputy Commissioner (media) Masudur Rahman on Thursday.
Detective Branch Joint Commissioner Abdul Baten at the press briefing held at the DMP media centre on Thursday afternoon said Juel Rana, 26, Masud Rana, 32 and Entu Hawlader, 30 were arrested from Badda and Jatrabari area on Wednesday night.
All three are suspected to have been involved in the mugging of Tk40 lakh close to the airport in Dhaka, and they all have admitted to their involvement in the incident, the joint commissioner added.
A team of RAB 2 on Wednesday detained five robbers from Mohammadpur during a drive. The five men – Md Rubel, 19, Md Rabin, 18, Md Rakib, 18, Md Rani, 18 and Md Srabon, 19 are all part of the gang.
RAB found four knives, an anti cutter blade and cash in their possession.
RAB officials said that they have admitted to mugging in different areas of Dhaka for a long time, during the primary interrogation.
“We have gathered some important information from them and after verification we will conduct more drives,” RAB said.
