Customs Intelligence officials have detained a person with 43 gold bars weighing 4.2kg at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
The gold bars were found wrapped in a black cloth inside his underwear.
Mohammed Anwar Hossain, a resident of Dhaka's Mohammadpur, was detained when he arrived at the airport from Singapore on Monday night.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) kept him under surveillance and arrested from the green channel, CIID Director General Moinul Khan has confirmed.
Hossain initially denied carrying any gold. He later told CIID that the gold bars belonged to one Rezaul and he was carrying them for him.
The seized gold has an estimated market price of over Tk2.14 crores.
The man has been arrested.
