Stalker's assault kills man trying to protect cousin from harassment
A 35-year-old man who was beaten by a stalker for reportedly protesting the harassment of his cousin in Sonargaon upazila, Narayanganj on Friday died at a Dhaka hospital on Sunday. The deceased, Sultan Ahmed Mintu, 35, was the son of Samsul Haque of Sadipur union in Sonargaon. Locals said Zakir, 35, son of Rafique of Mograpara union, was stalking Fatema Akhter on Friday when Mintu protested vehemently. Zakir was incensed by Mintu's intervention, and proceeded to hit him with a cricket bat and injured him severely. Locals took the youth to a nearby hospital and later, he was shifted to a hospital in Dhaka where Mintu succumbed to his injuries on Sunday morning. Sonargaon police station Inspector (Operations) Abdul Jabbar said they were looking for Zakir to arrest him.
