Update : 03 Jan 2018, 02:22 PM
Satkhira Awami League Organizing Secretary Sheikh Faruk Hossain Ratan was shot by miscreants on Tuesday night at the district's Debhata upazila. The incident took place around 9pm when Faruk, 42, who is also Sakhipur union parishad chairman, was returning home from Parulia Bazar on this motorcycle. Family sources said the miscreants first tried to stop Faruk on the road but as he ignored their signals, they followed him to his home on a private car and shot him from the back in front of his house near Sakhipur Primary School. The culprits fled as soon as Faruk fell to the ground from his motorbike. However, the shot went out of his body, piercing his chest. Locals first admitted him to Sakhipur Upazila Health Complex but as his condition deteriorated, he was rushed to Satkhira Sadar Hospital in critical condition. Resident Medical Officer of Satkhira Sadar Hospital Dr Farhad Jamil said: “We conducted an emergency operation on Faruk as soon as he arrived to the hospital in critical state. He is now under observation.” Debhata police station Officer-in-Charge Kazi Kamal Hossain confirmed the incident and said: “A team of police have already visited the crime scene. “Three bullet shells and a pair of shoes from a neighbouring garden were found.” Police have launched drives to arrest those involved in the incident, he added.
