Gaibandha police on Saturday brought charges against five suspects, including Jubo League leader Shohag Mia, over the gang-rape of a JSC examinee in Sadullapur upazila of the district on Friday. The accused are Sohag Mia (23), Babu Mia (22), Shariful Islam (21), Rubel Mia(22), and Khushi Mia (23). Three of the rapists were sent to jail after a mob beating. Police are still searching for the other two. Meanwhile, locals in Sadullapur vandalized the business offices of Dudu Mia, Shohag Mia’s father, on Friday night. The victim's uncle, Abdul Halim, filed the case with Sadullapur police station on Saturday morning under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. Shohag and his accomplices then forcefully took her to a nearby field and raped her. Locals rushed to the area after hearing her screams, and caught Shariful and Babu in the act. Shohag was apprehended near a shop he owns in the Naldanga rail gate area. Three of the five suspects have confessed to the rape charges.
