Four suspected members of the new faction of banned militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh, commonly known as New JMB, including its military commander of the northern districts, have been arrested in Shibganj upazila of Bogra.
The arrestees are military commander Babul Akter alias Babul Master, 45, Delwar Hossain alias Mistri Mizan, 39, Alamgir Hossain alias Arif, 26, and Afzal Hossain alias Limon, 28. All of them are the members of the JMB Sura committee (the highest ranking platform of the outfit).
Police also seized a foreign pistol, 15 rounds of bullets, a magazine, four knives and a machete from their possession, during the raid Wednesday night.
Additional Superintendent of Bogra district police Sanatan Chakraborty said a joint team of local police and the police headquarters, on information, made the arrests at Mokamtola area in the upazila when the militants were preparing for a sabotage.
After the arrest of Jahangir Alam alias Rajib Gandhi, another mastermind of the Holey Artisan attack in Dhaka, Babul Akter, had been acting as the New JMB military chief, the police official said.
