Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) officials have detained three people in two separate gold smuggling incidents at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
Among the trio, Md Zakaria, a security staff member of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, and a passenger named Masud Rana were detained while they were attempting to smuggle in gold via a Biman flight from Riyadh.
CIID Director General Moinul Khan said Zakaria was caught red-handed while he was assisting Masud bring in 732g gold.
The two detainees, yet to be handed over to airport police, were being questioned when this report was filed on Tuesday evening.
Earlier on Tuesday, CIID detained Abdul Mannan of Chittagong who flew to Dhaka carrying 464g gold hidden in his shoes. He was later handed over to police, said the CIID chief.
