Customs Intelligence officials have detained a man and recovered gold bars from his rectum, and ornaments at Dhaka airport on Sunday morning.
The detainee is Sohel Rana, 30, son of Jan Sharif of Dhaka.
According to the Custom Intelligence officials, Sohel was carrying two gold bars in his rectum, two more in a container of Vaseline in a polythene bag and ornaments weighing 109 grams in his handbag.
DG of the Directorate of Customs Intelligence Moinul Khan confirmed the gold recovery.
"Sharif arrived in Dhaka on an Air Arabia flight G9513 from Sharjah at 7:30am," DG said.
"Acting on a tip-off, Customs officials kept eye on Sohel while he was crossing the green channel and challenged him as his movement."
“The officials later detected two gold bars in his body after an X-ray,” the DG added.
In a primary interrogation it was learned that the passenger inserted two gold bars wrapped with tape in his rectum, the DG informed.
