Detectives rescued a six-year-old boy, who was kidnapped from a shopping mall in the city's Gulshan area on Friday, from Maddhya Kunipara early Saturday.
The law enforcement personnel also arrested three alleged kidnappers known as Rubel Rana, Shipon Sheikh and Mohammad Sagar.
Briefing reporters at the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Media Centre on Sunday, Deputy Commissioner of Detective Branch (DB, North Division) Sheikh Nazmul Alam said a team of detectives rescued Tausifur Rahim from Madhya Kunipara of Hatirjheel in the early hours of Saturday.
He said Momin Ahmed and his wife Nazmun Nahar along with their six-year-old child went to Police Plaza Concord Shopping Mall around 7pm on Friday.
At one stage, Rubel and his accomplices took away Tausifur from there while his parents were busy shopping.
They confined the boy to a house at Madhya Kunipara and demanded Tk10lakh to his father over mobile phone as ransom, Nazmul said.
As the victim's father informed the matter to police, the detectives along with Gulshan police started drives to rescue the minor boy.
As per a deal with the victim's family, the kidnappers came to a road in Tejgaon around 4am on Saturday to collect the ransom money. In the meantime, the detectives took position in the area.
The criminals who came to the spot by a private car opened fire targeting the law enforcers after sensing danger. The detectives retaliated by firing back.
At one stage, one of the kidnappers, Rubel, got down from the vehicle while others drove away.
The detectives caught Rubel and learned from him that other kidnapers kept the child at an apartment of Madhya Kunipara.
Based on the information, the Detective Branch team raided the apartment and rescued Tausifur as well as arrested two other abductors, the DB DC said.
Separate cases, including one under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act and another for firing gunshots targeting the law enforcement personnel, were filed with Gulshan police station.
