Man reportedly kills newborn, tries to murder wife with doctor's help in Magura
A man has reportedly killed his newborn baby and attempted to murder his wife, using an unqualified doctor at a clinic at Sreepur upazila in Magura. The ill-fated wife, Laboni Khatun, 22, is currently fighting for her life in critical condition at Magura Sadar Hospital. Her family alleged that Laboni’s husband Raju Khan, who is currently absconding, carried out the barbaric crimes after failing to squeeze his in-laws for dowry. The alleged murder of the child and attempt to murder Laboni took place on Friday morning at Sotota Clinic at Sreepur, according to her family. Magura’s Additional Superintendent of Police Tariqul Islam said they were investigating the incident. “Autopsy of the child is underway. A case is also being started over the matter.” Her brother Arif Hossain claimed that since they were married off a year ago, Raju and his family members have been torturing Laboni for dowry. “When Laboni conceived their first child, Raju had sent her to our home to Magura town. He took her back to his home at Khamarpara Ramnogor village several days ago for the delivery of the baby. But then he started pressuring her to make us pay Tk two lakh as dowry. She refused.” Raju had threatened to kill her if she does not get him the money, Arif further claimed. “Laboni was taken to Sotota Clinic on Friday morning after she went into labour Thursday night. There, Raju made a deal with the clinic’s quack doctor Mohon to have Laboni and the child murdered," he added. “They killed the baby right after it was born by snapping its neck. Then they tried to kill Laboni by tearing apart her uterus and intestines. Later, Raju told everyone that both Laboni and the child died during the delivery.” Arif said that their family members had rushed to Sotota Clinic after receiving the news and took his sister and the child to Sadar Hospital. Duty doctors declared the baby dead upon arrival while Laboni was admitted in critical condition. Since then, Raju and his family have been on the run. However, Mohon, who owns the local clinic, claimed he was innocent. He also said that he only delivered the baby and had nothing to do with its death.
