2 suspected members of Sarwar-Tamim’s New JMB faction held

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has detained two suspected members of a new faction of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (New JMB) from Rupganj area of Narayanganj district. They are Mamunur Rashid alias Mamun, 34, and Ismail Hossain, 29. “They were arrested from Tarabo bridge area around 10pm Wednesday,” RAB 11 Commanding Officer Kamrul Hassan told the Dhaka Tribune on Thursday morning. He said: “In primary interrogation, both of them admitted to involvement in militant activities. Militant leaders, including Sarwar Jahan, used to visit Mamun's house.” The RAB official said the detainees are accused in a terrorism case filed with Narayanganj’s Bandor police station. According to RAB, Sarwar Jahan alias Abdur Rahman alias Abu Ibrahim al-Hanif was the chief of New JMB while. Gulshan attack mastermind Tamim Ahmed Chowdhury was the second-in-command of the group.
