Ruling party MP's nephew lands in jail
Nazrul Islam Nayan, a nephew of Awami League Thakurgaon-2 MP Dabirul Islam, has landed in jail in a narcotics case. Judge RUM Zulkernain of the Judicial Magistrate’s Amali Adalat in Baliadangi upazila sent Nayan, 45, and his associate Shahjahan Ali Bhulu, 34, to jail on Thursday, rejecting their bail petitions. Nayan and Bhulu were held by a team of the Detective Branch (DB) on Wednesday night after a drive carried out at Nayan’s office at Lahirihat area of the upazila. The detectives seized 40 bottles of phensedyl during the drive. However, the DB did not include Nayan as an accused in the case filed over the phensedyl recovery, said Baliadangi police station Officer-in-Charge Mostafizur Rahman. The DB had indicted only Bhulu in connection with Wednesday’s phensedyl recovery, the OC said. He added that Nayan was sent to jail as he was a warranted accused in another narcotics case.
