Rivals face off over occupancy of house in Sreemangal
Tension has been prevailing in Sreemangal's Arambagh Muchipatti area where two groups are facing off over possession of a house. Police said a group of local transport workers, led by Arjun Das, had attacked the tenants of a single-storey building to oust them on Monday noon. Bangladeshi expatriate Abdullah Miah, living in the United Kingdom, is said to be the house's owner. Arjun claimed that one Motilal Robidas was the original owner of the house and that he had the power of attorney to represent Motilal. The attackers later fled as Abdullah's men took position in Arambagh area to fight them. Police intervened in time and took control of the situation. Sreemangal police station Officer-in-Charge KM Nazrul said they did not know who the legitimate owner of the property was. The local ward councillor had been asked to mediate the dispute, he added.
