Man confesses to raping and killing 4-year-old in Dhaka

The Detective Branch (DB) of police has arrested a man named Shipon for raping and killing a four-year-old child in Dhaka. The 35-year-old, who was arrested in Badda, Dhaka early Monday, confessed to the crimes during primary interrogation, police told the Dhaka Tribune. The child's body was found near her house on Sunday evening. Her family had immediately claimed that she had been raped and murdered. “Shipon has confessed to raping and killing the child yesterday [Sunday],” DB Joint Commissioner Abdul Baten told reporters at a press briefing on Monday. The joint commissioner said the victim, who lived with her parents in a rented room at a small slum in Badda's Adarshanagar area, was coming home from a neighbour's house around 5pm on Sunday when Shipon, who lives near the victim's family with his wife, lured her into his house with the promise of food. Once he got her inside, Shipon raped the child and, when she screamed, strangled her to death. Later, he threw her body inside a bathroom near her house. Her body was recovered by police around 8pm. It is currently at the Dhaka Medical College morgue for a postmortem examination. Police also raided Shipon's house and recovered blood-soaked clothes hidden in a bucket and bloody towel, Baten said. He further added that Shipon had criminal records and had spent five years in prison. “He was released on bail in a robbery case last year after staying in jail for five years. Since then, he has been earning his living as a labourer.”
