Two militants linked to Gulshan attack killed in Chapainawabganj raid
Two New JMB militants linked with Gulshan terror attack were killed during Operation Eagle Hunt in Chapainawabganj on April 26, police said. Confirming the matter during a press conference at DMP headquarters on Thursday, the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) chief Monirul Islam said Basaruzzaman alias Chocolate and Mizanur Rahman alias Chhoto Mizan died in the April raid. Monirul said arrested Gulshan attack planner Sohel Mahfuz alias Hatkata Mahfuz revealed the identities of the two militants during interrogation. CTTC sources said four militants blew themselves up at the militant hideout in Shibnagar village under Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj during the raid. Militant Abu Ali, 30, had rented the building in February this year and used to live with his family.

The CTTC suspect that Abu died in the raid. Regarding the matter, CTTC Deputy Commissioner Mohibul Islam told the Dhaka Tribune: “Primarily we are suspecting that Basaruzzaman and Chhoto Mizan died in Operation Eagle Hunt. But their identities will be confirmed after we get DNA test result.” Earlier, CTTC boss Monirul Islam said that they were trying to catch five fugitive New JMB members who were involved in Gulshan attack. Of them, Hatkata Mahfuz was arrested earlier in the month while Basaruzzman and Chhoto Mizan are believed to be killed in a drive. Rased alias Rash and Hadisur Rahman Sagor are still on the run. According to CTTC sources, Basaruzzaman, son of Shiraj Uddin and Banisa Begum, hailed from Lalpur of Rajshahi’s Tanore upazila. He completed Masters Degree in computer science from North South University. CTTC officials said Basaruzzaman left home six months before Gulshan attack. He is one of the planners of Gushan attack and was very close to Tamim Chowdhury, the mastermind of the gruesome attack who was later killed in a drive last year. On the other hand, Chhoto Mizan was a one of the arms and explosive supplier of new JMB. He used to supply arms at the instruction of Boro Mizan, who has already been arrested by the law enforcers.
