A police officer, Azizul Islam Shobuj, has been accused of murdering his wife, Marium Begum Parul, over property dispute in Jessore.
Marium's body was recovered on Thursday afternoon from Jessore's Ragurampur area.
The victim's relatives claim that she was murdered by her husband.
Meanwhile, neither the police nor the doctors could confirm the cause of her death as yet.
Marium's uncle, Masudur Rahman, said: “Marium's husband murdered her by hanging from the ceiling fan to make it look like suicide.”
Her thirteen-year-old son, Raharul Haque, said that he screamed when he saw his mother's body hanging from the fan from outside the window of his house. This alerted his father who broke the window and ran away. Locals soon rushed to rescue his mother and took her to the hospital.
Jessore General Hospital Dr Abdullah Al Mamun said: “Marium died before she was brought to the hospital. We can confirm the cause of her death after we receive the autopsy report.”
Marium's brother, Ziaur Rahman, said that Azizul works for police's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Dhaka. Marium used to live in her own house in Jessore with her two sons.
Masudur also said that Azizul was addicted to yaba and phensedyl. He added: “Marium's father had bought a property in her name near Jessore University of Science and Technology with Tk1800,000. Shobuj had been pressurising her to transfer that property in his name. Moreover, they used to fight a lot because Azizul talked to other women over the phone.”
Jessore Kotwali model police station OC SM Azmol Huda said: “We are aware that a police officer has allegedly murdered his wife by hanging her from the ceiling fan. Her body is in the hospital for autopsy. We can confirm the cause of her death once we receive the autopsy report”
Azizul is the son of Anarul Islam from Satkhira's Patkelghata.
