Detectives have arrested the president of Banaripara Upazila Chhatra League from Kalibari road in Barisal for allegedly raping a newly married bride.
Sumon Hossain Mollah was arrested Sunday afternoon. He is the prime accused in the case, reports UNB.
Sub-Inspector of Detective Branch (DB) of Police Md Ruhul Amin said acting on a tip-off, they conducted a drive in the area and arrested the BCL leader.
The 22-year-old woman was reportedly raped by a group of Chhatra League leaders on July 15.

Later, the victim’s husband filed a rape case with Banaripara police station against five upazila unit Chhatra League members, including its president Suman Hossen Molla, the prime accused of the case.
According to the case statement, Sumon demanded Tk1 lakh as extortion from the victim's husband when he along with his wife came to Banaripara from Chittagong to stay at his relative's house.
The BCL leaders and his associates raped her when her husband refused to give the money.
The victim has been sent to Barisal-Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital for medical test.
