Customs Intelligence officials on Wednesday detained two women attempting to smuggle 40 gold bars into the country through Dhaka airport.
Noting something suspicious in the movements of two female passengers of Regent Airways flight Flight RX728 from Muscat to Dhaka via Chittagong which landed at 10am on Wednesday, female intelligence officers conducted a thorough search of their persons.
The search revealed 20 gold bars hidden inside the vaginas of each of the women. After the primary interrogation, officials learned that the women were Nasima Akhter from Chakaria in Cox’s Bazar and Jesmin Akhter from Chittagong’s Satkania.
The gold bars had been wrapped in groups of four with scotch tape and inserted into their vaginas.
Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) Director General Dr Moinul Khan confirmed these facts. He further informed the press that during the primary interrogation, Nasima and Jesmin had explained that they had been hired by a middleman named Imrul.
This middleman had told them to board the flight when it stopped over at Chittagong airport to pick up domestic passengers and locate the packages hidden inside their allocated seats. Once on the flight, the women found the packages and hid them away in their vaginas. They, however, claimed that they were unaware of the contents of the packages.
Nasima said she was paid Tk8,000 and Jesmine received Tk10,000 for the job.
