Customs Intelligence seized 686 cartons of banned foreign-made cigarettes at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport Tuesday morning.
"Acting on a tip-off, Customs members challenged Md Belal Uddin and Md Rubel, residents of Chittagong, who had been travelling from Dubai to Dhaka on different flights, and seized a total of 1,36,800 sticks of cigarettes worth Tk54.72 lakh," a Customs Intelligence press release said.
According to the rules, it is illegal to import foreign-made cigarettes without anti-smoking warning.
Legal actions will be taken under Customs rules in this regard.
