A bus attempting to overtake another in Della area in Demra, Dhaka, ran over a father-daughter on Wednesday evening.
Arifuzzaman, a 45-year-old police constable working at Dhaka Court, was going to visit his sister in Jatrabari accompanied by his daughter Sumaiya, 15.
The two speeding buses drove blindly, without any care for regulations.
Around 5:45pm, one of the buses swerved out onto the roadside and crushed the pair.
Sumaiya was killed on the spot. Arifuzzaman was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Arifuzzaman's brother Mamun informed the tragic deaths to the Dhaka Tribune.
Demra police Officer-in-Charge Kawsar Ahmed said the killer bus and the driver had been detained by the police pending prosecution.
