A Dhaka court on Tuesday sentenced two people, including a woman, to death for killing Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Humayun Kabir of Shah Ali police station in 2013.
Judge Abdur Rahman Sardar of speedy trial tribunal-4 pronounced the verdict in a jam-packed court room in presence of the convicts.
The convicts are Rahima Sultana Rumi, wife of ASI Humayun, and Rafa-e-Misty, a friend of Rumi.
The court also sentenced Riya, wife of Misty, to life term and fined Tk20,000. She has to serve one year more rigorous imprisonment in default.
Among the convicted, Misty and Riya, friends of Rumi, remained absconding.
According to prosecution, Rumi with the help of Misty and Ria injected poison to Humayun and strangulated him to death at their house on December 14, 2013 over family dispute.
Rumi and Humayun got married in 2008 after a long love affair. Both of them belong to Mymensingh district.
On December 14 in 2013, Humayun’s brother Bazlur Rahman filed a case against the convicts with Mirpur model police station.
Mirpur model police station Inspector (investigation) Mainul Islam, also the investigation office of the case, submitted charge sheet against the convicts on July 20, 2014.
Rumi gave confessional statement before the court. The court placed the order after examining all the records.
