Uttara teenager murder prime accused still on the run
Police is yet to arrest Naimur Rahman Anik, the prime accused in the murder case of Uttara school boy Adnan who was killed on January 6. Investigators said about 25-26 people were involved in the killing. So far 24 of the suspects that have been arrested, and 13 of them have already confessed before the court. Regarding the case, Dhaka Metropolitan Police's (DMP) Uttara Zone Senior Assistant Commissioner Atikul Islam told the Dhaka Tribune: “Motive behind Adnan's murder was local rivalry. The charge sheet is almost complete and will be sent to the court anytime. However, Anik, the prime accused, is yet to be arrested.” On January 6, out of rivalry between two local teenagers' gangs- Disco Boys and Nine Star - Adnan, a Nine Star member, was attacked by Disco Boys, sustained severe injuries and died after he was taken to a hospital. Uttara West Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ali Hossain Khan said Adnan’s father Kabir Hossain lodged a case of local domination and grouping with naming nine people and accusing 10-12 more. Through a police investigation, it was revealed that in total, about 25-26 people were involved in the murder. “If we can arrest Anik, the case will get the full picture. However, Anik is absconding and is currently out of the country for which he could not be arrested,” the OC said.

A police source, referring to a statement made by one of the accused, said the incident was as the following: “On January 6, after the Jumma prayers, Anik called his friends and asked them to come to road 10 of sector 9, Uttara. At that time, Karim, Nore Alam, Rabiul, Sadaf Zakir, Anik, Rony, Nafis Dawn and Shetu came to the spot. Jihan too joined with a few others. From there, all of them went to the Uttara's sector 13 together. Many of them had sharp weapons with them. Roni had a knife, Shetu had a machete, Jihan had a hockey stick and everyone had a mask on. The gang entered road 17, and when they saw Adnan in a field nearby and they chased him. While trying to escape, Adnan fell on the ground after being hit on the head with a hockey stick. The gang them beat up Adnan and fled in different directions after the end of mission.” Abrar and Ashfaq, co-leaders of the Nine Star gang, were the main targets, said Mehrab Hossain, one of the main accused in the murder case, in his statement to the police.
