Land minister’s son arrested in vandalism case
Joint forces have arrested 11 persons including the son of an incumbent minister on charge of attacking and vandalising business establishments in Pabna’s Ishwardi Thursday. Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sharif, a lawmaker for Pabna 4 constituency, has long been engaged in a dispute with his son-in-law Abul Kalam Azad, the municipality mayor. On Thursday evening, a group of 10-15 armed men led by Jubo League leader Rajib Sarker and the minister’s son Shirhan Sharif Tamal launched an attack on various business establishments in the town including Azad’s sweets shop over the dispute. Meanwhile, the attackers also carried out vandalism at the residence of upazila Chhatra League President Zubayer Bishwas, a follower of Azad. Zubayer’s father Atiar Bishwas filed a case mentioning Tamal and Rajib as prime accused on Thursday night. The 11 people including Tamal were arrested a couple of hours after the case was filed, Ishwardi police station OC Abdul Hye Talukder told the Dhaka Tribune.
