Police recovered the body of a student from the Kirtankhola River in Barisal on Sunday.
The deceased, Atiqur Rahman Sajib, 19, a student of Barisal Government Polytechnic Institute from Kaunia, had been reportedly missing since Saturday.
Family sources said Sajib left home around 11am on Saturday for the college and did not return home.
Later, locals found the body floating under Shahid Abdur Rab Serniabat bridge in the river in Dapdapia area and informed the police.
Law enforcement recovered the body and sent it to the hospital morgue, said Abu Taher, second officer of Kotwali police station.
When contacted, Sajib’s brother Robiul Islam Sujon claimed his brother was abducted and killed.
“We tried to reach my brother several times but his phone was switched off,” he said.
“He was killed somewhere and later the body was dumped into the river. We have filed a general diary with Kaunia police station in this connection,” he added.
“The cause of death can be revealed after the investigation,” Abu Taher said.
