A shutter gun was recovered and three activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League arrested during a fresh police drive at Chittagong University, that started around 12pm on Friday and is set to continue indefinitely.
The arrested Chhatra League members are Abu Bakar Toha, Jahangir Rasel and Niaj though further details about the arrestees were yet to be revealed, said police.
The shutter gun was recovered from a flat near CU Gate No 2 in which Niaj and Jahangir Rasel lived, said Chittagong Police Additional Superintendent (North) Mosi Uddowla Reza.
“The drive as carried out to detain the accused in various cases filed with Hathazari police station. Apart from that, the drive will continue at the campus so that no untoward incidents take place ,” the police official said.

Earlier, from Thursday at 10pm till 12:30am on Friday, police raided the university's Suhrawardy Hall, Shah Amanat Hall, Shah Jalal Hall and Shahid Abdur Rab Hall and found 32 bullets and a large number of lethal arms, said Hathazari police station Officer-in-Charge Belal Mohammad Jahangir.
The raid was carried out after a factional clash between Chhatra League units of Chittagong University, he said, adding that additional police forces had been deployed on the CU campus to prevent further violence.
On Thursday, Chhatra League suspended the activities of its CU unit over the continuing feud between the supporters of the unit's president and general secretary. This is the second time that the CU unit has been suspended, after it faced similar consequences for an intra-party clash on February 2 last year.
