Extramarital affairs behind Pushpa and Rozina murders
The police have found extramarital affairs to be the reason behind the murders of Pushpa Rani, 40, and Rozina Akhter, alias Mitu, 28, found dead in separate locations in Dhaka on Tuesday. Pushpa’s body was found at a hotel in Uttara area and Rozina was found dead in her residence at Kafrul. Jagadish Chandra Shil, Pushpa’s elder brother, has said: “Pushpa, with her four-year-old granddaughter Monisha, went out with a family friend, Liton, on Monday afternoon.” Uttara West police station’s Officer-in-Charge Ali Hossain Khan told Dhaka Tribune that police are assuming that Liton killed Pushpa and abducted her granddaughter. Jagadish also said that Liton, an employee at Tejgaon Land Office, regularly visited Pushpa, married to Dinesh Chandra Shil and mother to two daughters. OC Ali said: “Liton used a fake name, Durjoy, to rent a hotel room with Pushpa and Monisha at Hotel Nila in Abdullahpur on Monday.” “It appears there was an extramarital affair between Liton and Pushpa, as the two rented the hotel room addressing themselves as a couple. “The police are still investigating the matter. At this moment, Liton is our main suspect in Pushpa’s murder,” the OC said. Her slaughtered body was found in a room on the third floor of under-construction Hotel Nila at Abdullahpur on Tuesday morning, Meanwhile, Kafrul police station’s OC Shamim-ur-Rashid said they suspect Rozina’s nephew-in-law Shakil is behind her murder. Shakil allegedly killed her in front of her two children at her residence on Tuesday around 12pm, OC Shamim said. Quoting locals and family members, the OC said: “KSA-expatriate Rafikul Alam’s wife Rozina lived with her two children near Ibrahimpur Bazar.” “Rafikul used to send money to Rozina through his nephew Shakil. Therefore, Shakil and Rozina started sharing a strong bond and it appears they got into an extra-marital affair. However, at some point, she suddenly started avoiding him which might have triggered him to kill his maternal aunt, he said. Police are quite certain of his complicity as he entered Rozina’s residence on Tuesday morning and left the premises without saying anything to the gatekeeper, he added. Police are trying to nab Shakil, who is a fugitive, the OC added. Two separate murder cases were lodged with Uttara and Kafrul police stations.
