Two youths killed in Meherpur 'gunfight' with police
Two youths have been killed and four police officers injured in an alleged gunfight in Meherpur's Gangni upazila. Gangni police Office-in-Charge (OC) Anwar Hossain said his officers went to the SB brick field near Malshadah-Hariyadah road at around 3am on Friday, after being tipped off that several youths were extorting money. “The extortionists opened fire on police as soon as we reached the location, leading to the skirmish," he said. Shipon Hossain and Alamgir Hossain were injured in the gun battle and declared dead by doctors at Gangni hospital, where the injured policemen were also treated. The injured policemen are Sub-Inspector Shankar Kumar Ghosh, Assistant Sub-Inspector Rafique, Constable Motiur and Constable Khairul. Firearms, bullets, bombs and machetes were recovered from the scene.
