The law enforcers are trying to recover the bodies of two militants who were killed after a long standoff with security forces at a building in Sylhet’s Shibbari upazila.
The operation to recover the bodies and cleanup Atia Mahal began around 8am on Monday, Additional Deputy Commissioner Jedal Al Musa of Sylhet Metropolitan Police told the Dhaka Tribune.
Police cordoned off the hideout on March 24. Army para-commandos joined the raid the next day. They rescued 78 people and killed all four militants. Bodies of two militants were retrieved on March 27.
“We could not recover bodies of two militants as they were wearing suicide vests,” ADC Musa said. “The bodies will be recovered today.”
The fire service, city corporation, police and a medical team are assisting the bomb disposal unit.
Atia Mahal's owner Ustar Mia is also present at the spot.
