A farmer from the indigenous communities of Godagari in Rajshahi has filed a case against four locals for intimidation, torture and burning down his houses to ashes over a land-related dispute.
Modol Soren of village under the upazila filed the case on Saturday night, a day after his seven houses were destroyed.
The accused are Mozammel Huq of Kashimpur village and his son Dorul Huda; and Nasir Uddin and Kashem of Ghiapur Pukur area.
Godagari OC Hipzur Alam Munshi confirmed the recording of the case, and said they would take action if the allegations were found to be true.
Locals say Modol Soren and several others built seven houses on their 76 decimal land in Sundarpur Jutkipara area. But Mozammel claimed ownership of the land and asked Modol Soren and others to leave the place.
Later a gang of criminals led by Mozammel vandalised the houses and set those on fire on Friday night.
Meanwhile, the attackers beat up locals who wanted to douse the fire. Model Soren and several other indigenous leaders were present among others.
Modol Soren said: “We have been living on this land, and producing crops for generations. We built some houses since my sons needed more space, but some people including Mozammel started claiming ownership of the land.”
