A Sylhet court has sent five activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) over allegations of wielding sharp weapons while giving a chase to some activists of Chhatra Dal at Sylhet MC College.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Saifuzzaman Hero gave the order after the five accused surrendered before his court and sought bail on Sunday.
The court took cognisance of some media news with photos showing BCL activists chasing Chhatra Dal activists on MC College campus on January 30, and ordered Sylhet Metropolitan Police to identify and submit a report on those who were involved in the incident.
On February 15, Additional Commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police Shahriar Al Mamun submitted the report to the court accusing six BCL activists – Sourav Acharya, 26, Tareq Ahmad, 23, Rabiul Hassan, 22, Hossen Murad, 23, Salman Opu alias Shamsul Islam Opu, 24, and Apon, 23.
All the accused except Apon surrendered before the court on Sunday morning seeking bail. But the court rejected their plea and ordered to send them to jail.
A case has been filed under the Speedy Trial Act in this regard.
