Four suspected criminals have been killed in a “gunfight” with police in Nurpur crossing area of Meherpur district.
The deceased are Saddam Hossain, 25, Romesh, 24, Shohag, 27, and Kanon, 25.
Additional Police Superintendent Abdullah Al Mahmud said: “Police patrolling the area noticed the criminals at Nurpur crossing around 2:30am on Tuesday. They opened fire at us when we approached them.”
In retaliation, police fired back, triggering a “gunfight.”
At one stage, they were caught in the line of fire.
He said: “They are accused in the Mojid and Asadul double murder case."
Six policemen were also injured in the incident. They were given primary treatment at Meherpur General Hospital.
Abu Ahsan Raju of Meherpur General Hospital Emergency Department told the Dhaka Tribune: “They were declared dead on arrival around 3:45am.”
