Police have detained 17 suspected militants, many of whom are linked to Jamaat's student wing, from different areas of Chittagong city.
The identities of the detainees could not be ascertained as yet.

CMP Additional Deputy Commissioner (west) Nazmul Hossain confirmed the detentions to the Dhaka Tribune.
“We conducted a drive and detained them from different areas Saturday night,” said Nazmul, adding “They are at the first stage of being radicalised. Most of them are members of Islami Chhatra Shibir.”
Further information would be disclosed at a press briefing later in the day, he added.

According to detectives, many leaders and activists of Chhatra Shibir have joined militant groups while some of them formed new armed groups in Chittagong, Rajshahi and elsewhere in the country in the last couple of years.
